April Frigging Fools

< --- TODAY                                               YESTERDAY --- >

The images you see here were taken today. April Frigging Fools, indeed. Anyone plays a joke on me today, I'm stuffing his (or her) head in a snow bank, damnit. The winter that would not die, indeed. In-frigging-deed. It's supposed to "cool down" here this week - highs in the low thirties, lows below freezing.

They released the climatological numbers today, and it seems that March's average temperature was warmer than January's - by .4 degrees. March WAS colder than February.  How pleasant.

I really shouldn't whine - as pointed out last month, if the cold we'd gotten then had hit us back in January, we'd have had -20 below. As it was, we had one or two below-zero mornings. Ugh. No fun.

Well, anyway. On the positive side, I suppose this delays, by a few days, at least, the purchase of the Lawnmower. Gulp.

Late Update
What you can't see in the picture from today is the fine young man who came down the street about five houses to shovel our driveway for free.  Mind you, this crap will be gone by Friday, and I was of a mind to let it melt (shoveling a whole driveway with a 3' shovel ain't much fun), but the kid came over and offered to do it for us.

He would take no monetary payment, so I parted with one of my snickers eggs.  He came back to tell us he did it in the name of Jesus who gave His only Son...  Good kid.  Really.  No theologian, but a good kid nonetheless.  I'll have to tell his parents (and then keep an eye out for the proselytizing which will undoubtedly occur).  But a good kid, nonetheless.

Short-Shrift Mode
Our family room (with my computer nook) has become Rhiannon's "temporary" bedroom. Why? Well...

John's To-Do list

  1. Create new page for this site.
  2. Create New week page for Ann's site
  3. Update current link, both pages
  4. SSH updates onto the server
  5. Prime area on Rhiannon's bedroom wall
  6. Paint (topcoat) area on Rhiannon's bedroom wall
  7. Re-arrange garage to get Rhiannon's dressers and workbench top out from bottom of pile
  8. Re-arrange lumber so it's not in the way.
  9. Put some boxes from garage in crawlspace to make more room in Garage
  10. Build above-desk shelf for computer desk
  11. Run a phone line from the far side of the family room through the drop ceiling to my computer desk so I can have phone service there.
  12. Sand and paint Rhiannon's new dressers
  13. Patch hole in bottom of grill
  14. Attach legs to grill more firmly
  15. Build my workbench
  16. Build Rhiannon's loft
  17. Get Cat Food
  18. Get Meat
  19. Get long-life light bulb
  20. Build stair-stand for stepstool so we can change the stair light bulb.

That should be fun. And no. That's not the complete list. The complete "Honey Do" list today topped 88 items today. That doesn't include the seven projects killed off (either not needed or severely changed) or the five already completed. It does include the three on "life support" (the maybe, maybe not category), and the eleven I've got in various stages of completion. Ugh.

No wonder I'm all over the place mentally. Give me a month, and things should settle down. I've got 19 days to build and paint a loft - the workbench and other shelves are a "simple bonus". Got to do them or I can't do anything else. I'm going to try to get the sofa table done too, but don't hold your breath.

Off to the rat race.

General
Argh.

I've managed to knock off eight items on the list above...  Numbers 1-6, 18, and 19, specifically, are done.

And we got another two inches of snow this morning.  What fun.

Ouch
I didn't think it would come, but it seems it has.  Carpal Tunnel has chosen my home for a visit.

It started back on moving day.  I realized after the very long day of work that I was having a problem holding the crescent wrench handle when I was tightening up the bed frame.  I figured it was exhaustion.

Which hadn't abated much through the balance of last week.

Last Sunday, though, the nails started going in on the coffin.  I was having real problems holding onto paint brushes and even the roller.  My fingertips were numb, my hands were tingling, and I couldn't grip well.

Some of this is certainly due to the poor work environment I'm struggling with right now at home.  Here you'll see the present workspace configuration.  It's painful, but I need to make this work.

So there will be some smaller amounts of content here for a while - I'll try to supplement it with pictures of the projects as I go along.  The loft will likely be the most fun...

For those of you who think I'm not the most anal person in the world, here you go...
